Lead Generation On Instagram: Why Your Instagram Account Isn’t Bringing In Leads

So you’ve grabbed your on-brand username, set up a profile and you’re posting regularly. Where are all those leads and sales you’ve been waiting for? Users often forget that social media is SOCIAL - you have to give as much as you get.

I’ve broken down my insights for finding leads on Instagram into the who, what, where and why of using this social media platform.

Who do you want to reach?

Many people get caught up on how many followers they have on social media. While you may need to reach a certain number to access valuable insights, after a point, too many of the wrong followers can harm your numbers.

When it comes to followers, it’s QUALITY over QUANTITY!

By this I mean, having a high follower count that is full of bots and people who are not your ideal clients won’t bring you new leads. Similarly, “like for like” and “follow for follow” trains are only helpful if the people in the train might one day want to become a client (or share a similar client base to you).

So what kinds of followers are important? Your dream clients!

Where do you find your dream clients?

It’s all well and good to know who you want to reach but finding them on social media is a whole other thing. That’s true, at first.

When you’re starting out, look for your ideal clients by stepping into their shoes. Look up hashtags that you think they might follow and see what content they do or do not interact with. Visit the profiles of your dream audience and like, comment or share their content. (Don’t try to slide into their DMs before they’ve gotten used to seeing you in their comments - it’s such a turn off).

It won’t happen overnight but, after taking some time to engage with your dream audience, you’ll start to see that they are finding you organically.

Why should they follow you?

So you’ve found them (or, hopefully, they’ve found you), now how do you keep them engaged? It is important to provide your audience with a reason to follow you back.

Give them what they want!

Make yourself the font of all knowledge for your niche. You are the expert after all so show them what you know.

If you can create a content plan that balances fun and inspiring posts with informative content (and just a pinch of pitching sprinkled in there), your ideal clients will keep coming back to you for more.

What will convert followers to leads?

Most people are scrolling through their feed looking for something to occupy their time or distract them from something they should be doing. This is where the all important Call To Action comes into play.

Give them a reason to reach out.

If you’re spending hours creating gorgeous content but you’re not adding a clear CTA, then you’re wasting your energy. CTAs not only boost your engagement rate but, they actually inspire your followers to ENGAGE with you.

Think hard about what you want your audience to do once they know who you are. Do you want to find out more about their pain points? Do you want them to book a call or download a freebie? Don’t miss this opportunity whatever you do.
